This study was aimed to evaluate 6 cases of endophthalmitis occurred in a short period following uneventful surgery at institute in northern India to assess risk factors and devising preventive measures. All cases were known to have compromised systemic status. Signs of endophthalmitis appeared after 48 to 72 hours. Culture of fluids and aspirated vitreous sample were inconclusive . Of these, two cases had moderately controlled diabetes mellitus; one revealed sudden fluctuation and poor control during immediate postop period. Fourth pt had Hepatitis C status. First episode took place in the month of jun which had involved intermediate two cases out of 18 cases operated upon on the same day and resulting poor outcome despite repeated PPV and antifungal /antibiotic regimen. Remaining cases responded well to PPV. Concurrent risk factors like Diabetes, Chronic Hepatitis or immuno compromised status are high risk factors in tropical countries especially during hot and humid weather.
