Amniotic membrane is used in ocular surface diseases due to its ability to promote epithelisation and reduce inflammation. In this case series, we highlight the efficacy of amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) with bandage contact lens (BCL). In case 1, amniotic membrane was transplanted for a non infective peripheral corneal melting resistant to standard therapy in an elderly female.
In case 2, a young boy with unilateral multiple epithelial opacities causing gross diminision of vision was treated with AMT and BCL. In case 3, keratectomy of nodular lesions along with AMT and BCL was considered in an elderly male of bilateral salzmann nodular degeneration. In case 4, young male presenting with diffuse vascularised epithelial opacity following chemical injury was managed by epithelial debridement, 360 degree peritomy along with AMT and BCL. Amniotic membrane which is easily accessible to harvest is an effective modality for treatment of superficial ocular surface disorders.
