FP1476 : Awareness & willingness for eye donation among doctors in medical college -time to educate regularly

If doctors approach & counsel possibility of potential corneal donors is increased

Aim-To assess knowledge and attitude of doctors regarding eye donation

Methods -Present cross sectional study conducted with questionnaire & pledge form issued to doctors to collect information on demographic details, awareness on eye donation,eye bank contacts, willingness, intention & hesitation for eye donation.Response evaluated in terms of knowledge & attitude

Results -Totally 144 doctors participated,108 completed, response rate-75%, 76% knew eye bank. 81% knew ideal time. 91% said cornea, 4% said sclera grafted. 65% pledged eyes. Nobility inspired 91%; 32%-had incomplete awareness, 13% felt corneas are underutilzed, 5.4% family objection & 8% had religious objection. 33% felt difficult to counsel, consumer-forum worried 19% & 26% felt funerals get delayed

Conclusion-Awareness on eye donation though good, still there is imperative to regularly emphasize, evade myths & promote eye donation.
