Dermoid cysts are one of the most common space occupying orbital lesions.Aim of this study is to analyse demographic factors, radiological feature and location of orbital and periorbital dermoids.A retrospective study was done in a tertiary care hospital on thirty patients of histologically proven dermoids between 2013 and 2017.Mean age of patients at time of surgery was 30 years(Range 5-65 years).Frequency of dermoid in superotemporal location was 72% and superonasal 28%.CT Scan revealed round to ovoid cystic lesion with well defined lining.Histologically,80% were lined by keratinising stratified squamous epithelium and rest by non keratinising epithelium.Hair shafts were present in wall or lumen of 80%,sebaceous glands in 75% and sweat glands in 20%.Thus we conclude, dermoids should be investigated to assess bony defects, intraorbital or intracranial extension. They should be removed carefully and completely and appropriate surgical incision should be chosen for good cosmetic and functional outcome.
