To compare safety, efficacy & clinical outcomes of SLET v/s CLAU in unilateral ocular chemical burns
Pupose-
To compare safety,efficacy&clinical outcome of SLET v/s CLAU in severe unilateral ocular chemical burns.Methodology-50 eyes of 50 patients with unilateral chronic ocular burns with >270 deg LSCD and healthy fellow eye were divided into 2 groups.25 eyes of group A underwent SLET while 25 of group B CLAU.Patients were followed up for 6 months & assessed for stable ocular surface,extent of reduction in corneal vascularization,improvement in corneal clarity and BCVA.
Results-
Stable epithelialized corneal surface was obtained in all patients, with a reduction in the mean clock hours of vascularization in both groups(P < 0.001).Corneal clarity,as well as BCVA , showed statistically significant improvement in both the group.
Conclusion:
Both the procedures, SLET and CLAU, were equally effective in achieving a stable ocular surface,regression of corneal vascularization. The requirement of minimal donor tissue in SLET makes it a preferred option over CLAU in unilateral chronic severe LSCD
