5 mths infant with c/o inability to open both eye (BE) completely since birth.BE upper and lower lids showed thin band shaped localised nasal & central adhesions.General & systemic examination was within normal limits.Surgical excision of connecting adhesions done under GA to improve cosmesis & prevent amblyopia. AFA is rare benign congenital anomaly in which single or multiple strands of fine connective tissue join both eyelids along lid margin. AFA is usually isolated & sporadic , but can be associated with multi systemic disorders like ankyloblepharon-ectodermal dysplasia-clefting syndrome; intercrural webbing of fingers; Curly hair -anklyoblepharon-nail dysplasia syndrome & trisomy 18.Other associated anomalies are cleft lip & cleft palate, hydrocephalus, meningomyelocele, imperforate anus, patent ductus arteriorus, ventricular septal defect & bilateral syndactyly. Presence of AFA should alert neonatologist, to further examine/ investigate systemic associations & anamolies.
