ABSTRACT-In India 7.4-15.3% childhood blindness is due to cataract.
PURPOSE-To assess visual outcome and rehabilitation,study postoperative complications and cataract surgery in difficult situations.
METHODS-A hospital based prospective study of 100 paediatric cataract cases was done from Jan-Dec2016.In all cases detailed history,full ocular and systemic examination with Paediatric and Anaesthetic check up was done.IOL power was calculated and appropriate under correction given as per age.In all cases Lens aspiration with PCIOL implantation by anterior approach ↓GA was done and followed up for 1year.
RESULTS-In our study postop VA was good with BCVA ≥6/12.PCO was common complication.Traumatic cataract was more in boys and Developmental cataract was more in girls.
CONCLUSION-Paediatric Cataract management requires dedicated team effort.The visual outcome depends on age-onset,cataract type,laterality,timing of intervention,visual rehabilitation method and postoperative complications.
