AIM: To study the effect of pseudoexfoliation on tear film & Central corneal thickness in non glaucomatous pseudoexfoliation patients.

METHOD: A prospective study including 102 eyes of 62 patients (M:F=0.63:1) with pseudoexfoliation(PXF) without any glaucomatous changes was done between Jan 2017-April 2018 and compared with 102 age & sex matched control eyes without pseudoexfoliation. Schirmer test, TBUT and CCT measured in both groups . Patients with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma were excluded.

RESULTS: Mean Schirmer test result was 11±2 mm & 8±3 mm in control and PXF+ groups respectively. Mean TBUT was 11±3 sec & 7±4 sec in control & PXF+ group respectively. Mean CCT was 548 µm & 512 µm in control & PXF+ group respectively.

CONCLUSION: PXF material causes decrease in tear secretion and instability of tear film leading to dry eye. It also lowers the Central corneal thickness in non glaucomatous eyes.
