FP1384 : Assessment of Visual Field Defects Associated with Pituitary Adenomas

INTRODUCTION: Pituitary adenomas (PA) lead to anterior visual pathway compression due to supra-sellar extension, resulting in visual field (VF) defects. AIM: Our study was aimed at analysing the different VF defects and their associations with tumor size at the time of presentation and its effect on prognosis.

METHODOLOGY: Cross-sectional study of 46 patients diagnosed with PA were tested for VF defects along with visual acuity assessment and the different parameters were compared.

RESULT: With a male preponderance most of the patients showed abnormal VF defects, primarily bitemporal hemianopia and peripheral constriction of fields. Patients with PA tumor size >1cm were more commonly associated with VF defects.

CONCLUSION: Bitemporal field defects were the most common abnormal VF defects along with peripheral constriction of VF, majority of cases having a PA tumor size >1cm. Early diagnosis of the VF defects and timely surgical management can hinder in the progression of the defect.
