Purpose: To know if sclera buckling is still a gold standard in pseudophakic RD.
Methods : A retrospective interventional case study done from Jan 2015 to Jan 2018. A total of 112 eyes were operated for pseudophakic RD, among them 40 cases were considered for scleral buckling. Minimal follow-up of 3 months.
Results: Out of 40 patients, 23 males and 17 females. Mean patient age was 53yrs. 50% of them had RD between 3-5 years post cataract surgery. Duration of RD, 55% less then 3 months. Type 50% with subtotal RD and 30% with total RD. PVR changes grade B 80%. 2 cases with choroidal detachment treated systemic steroids. 42.5% of pseudophakic RD had single break(common type HST, site STQ). 60% of eyes underwent single quadrant buckle. At the end of 3 month 90% of patients had anatomical success.
Conclusion: Allthough Parsplana vitrectomy is an recommended surgery for pseudophakic retinal detachment in literature, scleral buckling can be still a gold standard with a single procedure.
