With the advent of newer technologies and smartphones the screen time per individual has increased day by day.

The eyes which are exposed to the mobile phones, tablets and laptops suffer from digital eye strain and dryness.

The study evaluates the amount of screen time and its impact on the eye among medical students. Three hundred medical students were enrolled for the study. They have been given a questionnaire regarding the gadgets they view everyday, amount of time spent, visual complaints and any treatment. The subjects were examined for vision refraction, dry eye evaluation, thorough anterior and posterior segment evaluation. The results showed on an average a medical student spends six to eight hours on the mobile screens and laptops both for educational and recreational purposes. About forty percent of students in the study show evidence of eye strain and visual disturbances related to the screen time.
