OBJECTIVES OF THIS STUDY: To evaluate
1. the role of our modified Impression Cytology for the diagnosis and follow up of OSSN.
2. the efficacy of Immunotherapy with Interferon α 2b drops (3MIU/ml) in the treatment of OSSN.
STUDY DESIGN: Prospective Interventional Case Series.STUDY POPULATION:7 eyes of 6 patients.
METHOD: Interferon α 2b (INF- α 2b drops (3MIU/ml) 4 times a day until resolution, and a month thereafter.
FOLLOW UP:Patients were reviewed every week when on treatment and monthly thereafter for 1 year.Clinical photos and Impression cytology in every visit. RESULTS: Our technique of Impression Cytology showed very high specificity and sensitivity. Immunotherapy with IFN α 2b drops (3 MIU/ml) got 80% success rate.
Mean duration of treatment – 10 week & follow up done for 1 year.DISCUSSION: Compared to surgery, it treats all ocular surface & subclinical lesions. Compared to chemo, no surface toxicity ,no stem cell damage. With 3 MIU/ml dose,resolution in 6 weeks.
