Aim-To determine prevalence of glaucoma in patients attending DR screening camp.
Materials and Methods-Total 908 pts of geriatric age group who attended different camps for DR screening were simultaneously screened for glaucoma. 177(19.5%) had vertical cup-disc ratio>0.6,asymmetry between eyes>0.2 were referred to glaucoma clinic for further evaluation.
Results-Of 177 patients, 52(29%) had deep cup,Retinal nerve fibre thinning(RNFL)with normal IOP(<21 mm hg)by applanation tonometry classified as Normal Tension Glaucoma, 64(36%) had increased IOP (>21 mm of hg), Optic Disc changes with visual field defects classified as POAG. Remaining 51(28%) with only VF defects were classified as Glaucoma suspects and advised for follow up.
Conclusion- Assessment of Glaucoma during DR screening camp for signs of OD damage should be considered as strategy to improve case detection and decrease burden of disease in society.
