Aim: To retrospectively analyse the efficacy of Toric IOL’s in my first 100 & subsequent 100 eyes, implanted with Toric IOLs, for cataract cases with Astigmatism to see if with experience, the residual astigmatism improves & what factors help in improving the precision.
Method: All patients, who had Astigmatism ranging from 1 to 5D, operated with Toric IOL by a single surgeon (me) were taken and the residual Astigmatism at 1 month was noted.
Result: In the first 100 cases, the average residual astigmatism was 0.75D, whereas in the subsequent 100, it was only 0.25D
Conclusion: There is a definite improvement in the precision of Astigmatism correction in the subsequent 100 patients due to modifications that happened in obtaining better results. Factors like meticulous pre-op. work up, keratometric methods, marking techniques modification, Toric IOL implantation methodology & immediate post-op. examination for rotation, made this happen. These will be elaborated in this presentation.
