AIM
Injection of targeted voriconazole in deep fungal keratitis.
METHOD
Period of study: January 2017 to July 2017. Study included 12 patients who were diagnosed clinically and microbiologically (+ve smear and culture) as fungal corneal ulcers with deep stromal infiltrates not responding to routine antifungal drugs and given targeted voriconazole.
RESULTS:
1(08.3%) was given 2 intracameral voriconazole injections progressed to corneal thinning and who was treated by Cyanoacrylate Glue and BCL then later required tectonic penetrating keratoplasty.
Decrease in hypopyon or infiltrate was noted in 11 (91.7%) after 48 hours of intervention.
Total 11 (91.7%) healed with corneal opacity, 1 (08.3%) had failure of treatment with corneal perforation and melting.
CONCLUSION
Targeted delivery of Intrastromal or Intracameral Voriconazole was effective with a better outcome and a significant reduction in healing time in severe keratomycosis not responding to routine antifungal therapy.
