OBJECTIVES:To assess the change in the Quality of Life after LASIK surgery in patients with myopia.
METHODS:Diagnosed myopic patients were evaluated for Uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA),Best Corrected Visual acuity(BCVA) and were subjected to a validated 38 item( including 12 subscales)self administered NEI-VFQ-25 Questionnaire. The main outcome measures were UCVA, BCVA and NEI-VFQ Questionnaire scores evaluated 3 months post-operatively.
RESULTS: 86 eyes of 43 patients were studied. The study showed significant improvement in BCVA and all subscales of NEI-VFQ.The average pre-operative VFQ-25 Composite score was 81.3 and the mean three monthly post-operative VFQ-25 score was 97.5 with difference=16.2.The difference was found statistically significant.
CONCLUSION: The study reveals that the value of LASIK went beyond the achievement of clinical refractive correction and extended to improvement in the quality of life associated with increased sense of overall well being and self-efficacy.
