Aim- To assess the role of B-scan ultrasonography in open globe injuries post repair.
Study design- Prospective study
Materials and Methods
A prospective study of 32 patients who presented to Department of Ophthalmology from September 2017 to April 2018 with open globe injuries and underwent primary repair were included in this study. A gentle and sterile B-scan ultrasonography was done 24hours after the repair to assess the posterior segment in cases with no view of the fundus.
Results
Among 32 B-scan reports, there were total of 4 cases of Retinal detachment, 9 cases of Vitreous hemorrhage, 2 cases of Posterior vitreous detachment, 2 cases of Focal retinal traction and 1 case of Hemorrhagic choroidal detachment
Conclusion
B-scan ultrasonography is a sensitive and cost effective imaging modality which helps in diagnosing and planning further management of open globe injuries.
