Dr.Mahesh Pathak, P15057

Aim: To evaluate results of Iris Claw Lens (ICL) implantation and to see that, was surgical retina backup a prerequisite for the procedure.18 patients underwent ICL implantation in a period of 8 months.

Methodology: Aphakic patients were selected from our outpatient department. Vision was noted and intraocular pressure was also checked. Slit lamp biomicroscopic examination (SLE) was done in all patients with indirect ophthalmoscopy (I/O) for retinal checkup. A–scan biometry was done for lens power calculations. Post-operative vision was noted and SLE done with retinal (I/O). Follow-ups were done at 1week, 1month, and 3months postoperatively. Results: Out of 18 patients 15 had visual acuity better than 6/12. Of the remaining 3 patients 2 developed Macular Edema and pigment dispersion. One patient had vitreous hemorrhage with vision of 5/60 which later improved to 6/18.

Conclusion: From our study surgical retina backup was not needed in any of our cases, but it may be rarely required.
