AIM: To evaluate the systemic associations and clinical profile of endogenous endophthalmitis in culture positive patients
METHODS: Records of all patients of culture positive endogenous endophthalmitis in a tertiary eye care center from 2013-2017 were reviewed retrospectively for analyzing their systemic associations patient’s demographic data, predisposing medical condition, ocular features, systemic features, organism in culture, best corrected visual acuity before and after treatment and length of follow-up were collected and analyzed.
RESULTS: 8 eyes of 8 patients (all males) were identified; mean age of presentation 41. 37.5% of them are diabetic; 75% patients had preexisting source of infection. Culture result shows gram positive bacteria 50%; gram negative 37.5%; fungal- 12.5%; 75% of patient got perception of light vision.
CONCLUSION: The outcome of endogenous endophthalmitis has not improved and clinicians need to have a high level awareness of this serious condition
