Aim: To study the factors influencing ocular deviation in sensory strabismus and to evaluate the outcome of strabismus surgery
Methodology: 30 patients with sensory strabismus underwent clinical and orthoptic work up to evaluate the type and angle of deviation, and to establish the cause for strabismus. All patients were subjected to surgical intervention in the amblyopic eye and post operative follow up of 3 months was done.Data was analysed using descriptive statistics
Results: 27 patients were found to have horizontal strabismus (90%),out of which 21 patients had exotropia (77.7%). Anisometropic amblyopia was the commonest cause (36.6%) for ocular deviation.Post surgery,25 patients were orthotropic (83.3%) and 21 patients remained so after 3 months
Conclusions: Uncorrected high refractive error leading to amblyopia was the main cause for sensory strabismus. Ocular alignment and cosmetic outcome after surgical correction show good results despite poor visual acuity in the affected eye
