Aim
To report the incidence of Endophtalmitis after manual small incision cataract surgery (SICS) at dedicated tertiary Eye care centre during camps, catering remote and tribal areas of central India.
Methods
It is a retrospective study and data has been retrieved from hospital records of patients who underwent manual SICS in a tertiary eye care centre from December 2017 to February 2018. All norms for sterilisation of operative instruments and consumables were followed. Stringent standard pre and post-operative measures were taken to prevent any infection.
Results
6500 small incision cataract surgeries by 9 senior surgeons conducted in customised OT . Endophtalmitis reported in 0.0009%(6 eyes). 4 eyes managed with intravitreal antibiotics injections and 2 eyes required vitrectomy.
Conclusion
Customised OTs at tertiary Eye care centres is advisable to perform cataract surgeries during large camps providing quality eye care.
