A 2 month baby ,second child of healthy parents, was admitted to our department with primary complaint of not following light. She had a cleft palate, cone-shaped calvarium, midface hypoplasia, syndactyly of the hands and feet, hypertelorism, proptosis & Strabismus(exotropia).
Examination under anaesthesia was done for the child (general anaesthesia) in which we measured the IOP of both eyes it was 18 and 16mmHg , corneal diameter was 12 mm and 13 mm respectively, Retinoscopy was done on table and also fundus examination was done. Surgeons assessed the child for palate abnormality.Signs of glaucoma were there & hence trabeculectomy was done in one eye in the same sitting.15 days later other eye was operated for glaucoma.
The treatment of these patients requires a multi-disciplinary approach. The aim is to alert pediatricians surgeons & ophthalmologists about the early diagnosis and appropriate treatment to improve the quality of life and the prognosis of child with Apert syndrome.
