To assess the prevalence and type of refractive error among children in the urban and rural school.Cross-sectional study was conducted among school children. Total of 24427children from 43 school; 11483 from 34 rural and 12944 from 9 urban schools were included. study population of 767 children with defect were evaluated for the prevalence of refractive error in various demographic and geographic subpopulation.Most common diagnoses included SM(40.2%),SM(37.3%)and CMA(20.6%). Diagnosis of SM showed the largest difference between rural and urban counterpart with 35.6%of SM present in rural compared to 42.5% in the urban population. Significant difference in refractive error in the urban compared to rural school, which may be attributed to a variety of factor like increased literacy rate or educational demand. Impairment of vision due to myopia in school is an important public health problem that can be addressed by early screening for ocular condition and providing corrective glasses.
