AIM:Study of ocular morbidity in acid burn patient
MATERIALS:Cross-sectional study of acid burn patients presenting to RIO between Aug17 to Jan18 and follow up after 3 months.
METHOD:44 eyes of 29 patients with acid burns were assessed using Roper-Hall classification at the time of presentation.VA <6/60 -in 5(11.4%) , 6/60-6/18 –in 20(45.5%) ,6/18 to 6/6 – in 19(43.2%)
O/E : Limbal ischemia in 70% cases
Corneal haze-58%,stromal haze-30%, corneal opacity -10% cases
Grade I-20(45.5%) ,grade II-12(27.2%),grade III-7(15.9%),grade IV-5(11.4%)
RESULTS:During follow up -VA improved in 16(36.4%),corneal opacity in 13(29.5%)& symblepheron in 6(13.6%),4(9.1%)referred for keratoplasty & 5(11.4%) became visually challenged(VA<3/60)
CONCLUSION :The patients who presented early and those patients with good VA at the time of presentation had good visual prognosis and less ocular morbidity compared to those who presented late and those with poor VA at the time of presentation
