Type of article: Original article. Design: Prospective, non-randomised, cohort study. Materials & methods: Patients aged between 40-65 years, with corneal astigmatism 1.00–2.90 D, underwent phacoemulsification with implantation of toric multifocal intraocular lenses (MFIOL) (Alcon Acrysof IQ ReSTOR Toric MFIOL+3 Add). Reviewed at Day 1, 1, 4, 8 and 12 weeks post-op. Results: N= 30 eyes of 20 patients completed 12 weeks follow-up. Mean UCDVA & UCNVA improved significantly at 12 weeks post op (P < 0.001). Net astigmatism changed from 1.65±0.52 D to 0.19±0.06 D at 12 weeks. Changes in corneal astigmatism were insignificant. The mean axis of IOL rotation was 2.4±3.4 degrees. (Maximum 08 degrees). Patient satisfaction for quality of vision in photopic and mesopic conditions: 90%=’very satisfied’, 10%=’satisfied’. None of the patients reported abnormal visual phenomenon. Conclusion: Toric MFIOLs are effective in correcting the pre-existing corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery.
