Dr.SUBHASHINI M, S20201

Identifying and reporting of common devices that can be potentially harmful to cause ocular injuries is essential. These are not apparent but significant in social scenario. TVS 50, a type of two wheeler vehicle is more common in our part of country. This is modified with a steel rod in between the handlebars with a hook at its centre. Over a period of one year, six cases all under 10 years were reported with canalicular tear caused by that hook, who underwent repair with stent placement. Avoidance of such preventable man made injuries is possible only when adequate awareness about the seriousness of the issue is effectively delivered to the public through community ophthalmology.
