AIM: To know demographic, cause, clinical profile and visual outcome of ocular trauma in pediatric age group presenting at tertiary centre.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study done for 6months where children upto 16years with history of ocular trauma attending tertiary centre were included. Cause and place of injury, age, sex, intervention, BCVA noted with 3month follow up period.
RESULTS: Of 53 patients with 60 eyes, Boys(66%) were affected more than girls(33%) with mean age group of 7.5years. Adnexal injuries were in 61.6% eyes, closed globe injuries were 30%, open globe injuries 8.3%. Injuries from blunt objects were 62%, sharp objects 28% and others 10%, occurring at playground were 35%, at house 23.3%, school 16.6%, chemical and RTA 10% each. BCVA >6/18 observed in 82.4% of closed globe injury.
CONCLUSION: Boys affected more than girls with mean age group 7.5yeras. Blunt trauma at playground were common cause of injury. Most of the children achieved BCVA >6/18.
