Purpose

To use OCTA to measure central macular thickness,FAZ & individual retinal layer thickness in amblyopic eyes vs companion normal eye(internal control)&age matched controls(external control). To assess same after 6months of amblyopia therapy

Methods

The study was conducted on 82 children aged 5–14 years:40 cases with unilateral amblyopia and 42 subjects without amblyopia. All the parameters were measured by OCTA in center(foveola),3&6 mm rings, compared and followed up.

Results

Foveal thickness difference >10microns was detected between amblyopic eye and fellow eye(P=0.026)as well as external controls(P=0.002).A significant increase in thickness of inner nuclear layer&ganglion cell layer was noted(P=0.004).At 6 months, though not significant(P=0.9)few children showed reduction of inner retinal layer thickness

Conclusion

Amblyopic eyes have changes in retinal microstructures compared to normal eyes.Understanding it will help in management, counselling &prognosticating visual outcomes.
