METHOD-Medical records of children below 16 years who underwent surgery for traumatic cataract between January2012 to December2017 were reviewed retrospectively.Children with minimum follow up period of 3 months were included in study.RESULT-Thirty-one eyes of 31 patients with unilateral injuries (14 OD,17 OS) were included in study.Mean age of diagnosis was 8.55+/-3.46 years.Mean delay of cataract surgery from trauma was 386.16+/-623 days.Each eye was categorized according to trauma, closed (n=16) or open globe(n=15).Primary Intraocular lens implantation was done in 29 eyes(93.5%).Post operatively vision was significantly improved compared to preoperative vision(1.84 vs 0.54 logMAR).15 patients didn’t attain good vision initially due to amblyopia.6(19.35%) patients had angle recession out of which 2(6.45%) patients developed glaucoma on later date.CONCLUSION-Surgical outcomes for pediatric traumatic cataract is relatively good if operated on time with appropriate amblyopia management.
