PURPOSE: To describe inadvertent variations in flap making in FEMTOLASIK
METHODS: Retrospective study of 21 eyes with mean patient age of 24years, who had inadvertent variations in flap making in FEMTOLASIK. All patients had normal preoperative tests. Mean femtolasik parameters were: A) FLAP-diameter8.97mm, thickness109.4µ, side cut angle70°, canal width1.5mm B) HINGE-position90°, length 3.9mm, angle 52.6°, width 0.45mm.
RESULTS: Out of 21 eyes studied, 12(57%)had incomplete central cut, 3(14%) had improper side cut, 2(9.5%)had poor canal, 1(5%)had incomplete central cut with opaque bubble layer(OBL), 1(5%)had improper side cut with OBL, 1(5%)had air in anterior chamber and 1(5%)had OBL with epithelial loosening.
CONCLUSION: Despite normal preoperative corneal and flap parameters, inadvertent intraoperative variations in flap making were seen. Incomplete central cut being the most common followed by improper side cut. In 91% cases excimer cut was completed and in 9% it was deferred.
