Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is a disorder with elevated CSF pressure, normal CSF content, normal neuroimaging with optic disc edema.Optic disc drusen presents a diagnostic challenge as it can mimic disc edema but the etiology and treatment differs.
CASE:A 12 year old girl presented with headache for six months.Ocular examination revealed visual acuity of 6/6 with papilledema in both eyes and optic nerve head drusen in right eye.Colour vision testing by Ishihara plates was normal.MRI with MR Venography brain suggested idiopathic intracranial hypertension.Bscan and fundus autofluorescence showed optic disc drusen in both eyes. She was started on T.Acetazolamide 250mg.Patient was symptomatically better during the subsequent visits.
CONCLUSION:We report this case because of the rare association of papilledema with optic disc drusen in a paediatric patient and to consider optic disc drusen in atypical cases of disc swelling to prevent delay in appropriate management.
