Dr.Kalkote Prasad Rajkumar, K19169
Purpose-To evaluate changes in Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),central
macular thickness(CMT)&subfoveal choroidal thickness(SFCT) before&after
phacoemulsification in DR
Methods-Prospective observational study.Patients with Cataract&DR included.
Complicated cataracts;any intra/postoperative complications;denser cataracts
where OCT not possible;HbA1c (>8gm%);previous laser or Intravitreal injections
excluded. BCVA (LogMAR), Sequential SD-OCT with Enhanced Depth
Imaging for CMT&SFCT was calculated pre-op within 1week& at 1&3month
post-op.Results-30 eyes of 30 patients enrolled with 19(63%) males, Mean age
62.4±6.6 years.Values at preop, 1&3 month post-op were BCVA-
0.58,0.14,0.09;CMT-263.8,324.4,304.7µm;SFCT-259.3,254.3,252.3µm
respectively.Significant gain in BCVA,increased CMT& decreased SFCT observed
at 1&3 month post-op, directly proportional to stage of DR
Conclusion –Gain in BCVA, increased CMT with decreased SFCT in postop
depends upon the stage of DR preop
