Aim:To study the microbiological profile of ocular infections and role of emperical therapy.
Material and methods: Cross sectional study was conducted in tertiary care hospital in 2016 and 2017. Samples from patients with signs and symptoms of ocular infection taken.Microbiological profiling of endophthalmitis and corneal ulcer cases done.
Result: From samples of corneal ulcer,out of 220 eyes in 2016, 67%was culture positive. In 2017 out of 231 eye, 71.4% was culture positive. Fusarium was the commonest microorganism isolated. In bacterial keratitis Nocardia outnumbered Pseudomonas species when compared to preceding year. In endophthalmitis cases 41.1% was culture positive with pseudomonas being most common in 2016 .2017 showed 12.67%culture positive. Coagulase negative staphylococci being most common.
Conclusion: From 2 years data,70% cases of corneal ulcer were due to fungi and 30% bacterial.Post surgical bacterial endophthalmitis was more common when compared to fungal etiology.
