To compare & analyse the choroidal thickness in eyes with amblyopia( strabismus or anisometropia)versus normal fellow eye using OCT
Prospective study of 68 eyes of 34 Children.Choroidal thickness(CT) was measured by swept-source OCT; in subfoveal region, nasal and temporal quadrants at 500µm and 1000µm intervals.23 children had anisometropic amblyopia and 11 children had strabismic amblyopia. Analysis done by Levene’s test using SPSS software.
The mean subfoveal CT in anisohyperopic/strabismic amblyopic eyes was thicker 426 µ/ 378 µ (SD, +/- 83 µ)vs normal eyes was 373µ/343 µ (SD, +/- 75µ). CT in nasal(400µ) and temporal(392 µ) quadrants were also thicker in amblyopic eyes vs normal eyes( nasal- 357 µm, temporal- 358 µm). The CT in anisomyopic eyes was thinner compared to normal eye.
Study adds to information on anatomical changes in amblyopic eyes unlike so far understood and may aid as objective parameter for diagnosis. Its relation to response to patching needs to be explored
