AIM:The aim of this study is to compare the incidence of ocular injuries due to RTA (road traffic accidents) before and after the ban on liquor in NORTH BIHAR.METHODS:A comparative study was done between incidence of ocular injuries patients sustaining head injuries due to RTA 6 months prior and 6 months after the liquor ban.Different datas were collected from the casualty.Ocular,neuro opthalmic and radiological investigation were performed as per the need.RESULTS: The study showed only 242 (closed:open globe=156:86) patients presented with ocular injuries after the ban compared to 368(closed:open globe=272:96) patients before the ban on liquor.In both cases males(25-55 years) on two wheelers outnumbered females.CONCLUSION:There was a considerable decrease in the incidence of ocular trauma cases due to RTA after the ban.The offenders of ‘DRINK AND DRIVE’ should be prosecuted.Other states should follow the footsteps of Bihar so as to decrease the menace of RTA cases and ocular injuries.
