A 45year female diagnosed of SLE reported to eye OPD with complaint of pain,redness,watering,foreign body sensation OD -15 days & OS with pain, itching.Visual acuity OD 6/12 ph 6/9 ;OS 6/9 ph 6/6 .Ocular examination- OD-conjunctival congestion,360 degree peripheral epithelial defect,limbal nodule with infiltration at 6 o-clock & corneal clarity 3+,Schirmer I 30mm & Schirmer II 13mm,TBUT 7 sec,decreased Corneal sensation & CFS score of 3. OS- mild conjunctival congestion,Schirmer I 7mm & Schirmer II 5mm,TBUT 9sec,normal corneal sensation & CFS score 0. Umblical Cord Blood Serum(UCBS) eye drops was started from day one & 6 times a day with standard medical therapy.Visual acuity improved to OD 6/9 & OS 6/6part.Congestion decreased significantly.There was complete re-epithelisation ,limbal infiltration reduced with improvement in corneal clarity.Conclusion -UCBS is effective in decreasing symptoms and kerato epitheliopathy in case of peripheral ulcerative keratitis associated with SLE.
