Aim : To study visual impairment in ADHD patients

Materials and methods : Cross-sectional study of 1 year duration (March 2017-Feb 2018), of 55 patients showing symptoms of ADHD. Age ranges from 5-13 years were considered. BCVA was determined after refractive error correction.

Results : M:F = 2.2:1, mean age = 7.4±2.5 years. No visual impairment in 14.5% cases. 27.3% cases had 6/6 to 6/18 vision in better eye. 43.6% had VA <6/18-6/60, whereas 9.1% cases had VA <6/60 to HM+ve in better eye. 5.5% cases had PLPR. 58.2% cases had refractive error of which myopia was most common. 18.2% cases had nystagmus. 5.5% had congenital malformations, 3.6% had retinal disorders. 50.9% of cases showed improvement of symptoms on refraction.

Conclusion : Patients with ADHD may have significant degree of visual impairment.
