Purpose- To study the etiology and management of macular oedema at rural based hospital.Method- Hospital based Prospective Observational Descriptive study where,100 patients with macular oedema of any etiology and age more than 18yrs, from Jan 2017-2018. Detailed history with complete ocular examination was done.Result- Out of 100 patients 45.5% patients diabetic; 27.5% hypertensive and 27% were both hypertensive and diabetic. 62.5% had diabetic retinopathy, 28.75% had veno-occlusive disease, 5.25% were diagnosed with age related macular degeneration leading to macular oedema, 3.25% of uveitic macular oedema and 2% traumatic macular oedema. 87% patients with macular oedema were treated with intra-vitreal anti-VEGF injections followed by topical anti-inflammatory drug and 13% patients were managed by surgical interventions.Conclusion: Diabetic retinopathy and veno-occlusive diseases are common etiological factors leading to macular oedema. Anti-VEGF injections are boon to the disease.
