Aim: We report a cluster of patients developing photokeratitis as a result of exposure to unprotected UV-B light source. Background: Photokeratitis results from unprotected exposure to ultraviolet radiation, has previously been linked to metal halide lamps with broken outer envelope. Clusters of photokeratitis are associated with defective glass envelopes surrounding mercury vapor lamps. One characteristic of such injury is a latent period of several hours between exposure and effect. Methods: This is the first example of mass exposure to ultraviolet light in the India & highlights the hazards of ultraviolet lamps used in public places and as sunlamps. Results: A total of 90 patients were affected & were found to have facial erythema & bilateral punctate corneal erosion. Majority were between 11 – 20 years, females affected more than males. Most regained normal vision after treatment. Conclusion: This report highlights the hazards of UV lamps & need for strict safety protocols
