Objective: To report a case of bilateral anterior uveitis in elderly.
Methods: Case report.
Results: 63 year-old female patient, presented with acute anterior uveitis in right eye and after 2 months acute anterior uveitis in left eye. On further evaluation patient was found to be HLA B27 positive. ACE titres were borderline high and titres of IgG for Rubella, CMV , HSV 1 and 2 were high with no rise in IgM. Patient was managed as a case of HLA related bilateral anterior uveitis with topical medications and patient improved dramatically. Presently patient is on tapering doses of topical steroids in left eye.
Conclusions: Though HLA B27 related anterior uveitis is generally present in a recurring form and at an early age, it can still present for the first time in the elderly population. Considering the changes in immunity in old age, this report emphasises the various causes of uveitis and the panel of investigations in screening of uveitis in elderly.
