LASIK is a popular refractive surgery. Cornea and Tear film is essential to maintain optical property of eyes. Tear dysfunction causes ocular discomfort and decreases quality of vision.
Tear dysfunction was assessed in 120 eyes of 60 patients undergoing LASIK surgery preoperatively & postoperatively at 4-6 weeks & 10-12 weeks by Tear Meniscus Height (TMH),Tear film break up time (TBUT) Lissamine Green (LG) staining, corneal fluorescein staining (FS) & Schirmer I test.
Result -It was observed that TMH reduced significantly & remained the same even after 10-12 week (p<0.0001%), eyes with abnormal TBUT (p<0.0001) & positive LG stain (p<0.0001) increased significantly after LASIK & Schirmer test (p=0.39) & corneal FS (p=0.18) were not helpful for evaluating tear dysfunction in patients undergoing LASIK surgery. CONCLUSION -In assessment of tear function in patient undergoing LASIK surgery TMH,TBUT,Lissamine green staining were significant & Schirmer test & corneal FS were not helpful.
