To many artists seeing grayscale is always an advantage. Aim: to analyse quality of vision in colour blind people
Main outcome measures: night vision, far vision, memory of shape.
Methods: all colour vision deficient persons attending OPD were tested for far vision, night vision and memory of shape. Hurdles in maneuvering machines including driving noted. Compared with normal controls
Results: 24 cases of color deficient people of which 6 had achromatopsia. All had better parameters compared to control.4 Acquired cases due to stroke and carbon monoxide poisoning affecting occipital cortex had colour vision defect.
Conclusion: Colour deficiency is helpful in many cases and not hampered maneuverability. Relook at statutory testing is recommended. Colour vision must be included as third parameter after visual acuity, contrast sensitivity
