Aim: To find out the periocular dimensions and its association with dry eye in patients of MGD.
Material and Methods: A prospective, nonrandomized, observational study was done on 128 patients of 20 to 60 years of age divided in group A (64-MGD) and group B (64-normal).Bilateral direct manual measurements of horizontal palpebral fissure (HPF), vertical palpebral fissure (VPF), upper eyelid crease (ULC), and margin reflex distance (MRD) were recorded with dry eye assessment.
Results: In group A avg. HPF 33.2+/-2.0, VPF 11.6+/-1.6, ULC 9.2+/-2.2, MRD 4.8 +/-.8 Compare to group B avg. HPF 31.4+/-2.0,VPF 10.4+/-1.2,ULC 8.6+/-2.5, MRD 4.1+/-0.5 with female preponderance.
Conclusion: Increased periocular dimensions in MGD making more prone for dry eyes. (Mean Schirmer tear test 14.4 ± 8.32 mm).
