Purpose: To assess the change in central macular thickness (CMT) after penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) with OCT and to know the prevalence and prognosis of cystoid macular edema (CME) in these patients. Materials and Methods: A hospital-based prospective study of 13 eyes of 13 patients of PKP, 11 undergoing PKP and 2 triple procedure. CMT analysis was done with OCT at end of month 1,2, and 3. Patients with
CME were continued with the routine treatment of PKP. Results: The statistical difference between the CMT of 1st and 2nd and between 2nd and 3rd month was significant. Prevalence of CME at month 1,2, and 3 was 30.7%, 23.07%, and 7.69%. Triple procedure patient had higher CMT than simple PKP, but the difference was not significant. Conclusion: There is a gradual decline in CMT and prevalence of macular edema with time. Not every case of macular edema after PKP needs treatment. Triple procedure without vitreous disturbance has no separate effect on incidence of CME, than routine PK.
