Aim : To compare CCT in eyes with PXF in patients with/without diabetes mellitus
Methods : A cross-sectional study carried out over 2 years duration (Oct 2015 to Sept 2017) including 350 patients , >50 years of age without diabetes in control group and 320 patients with diabetes >50 years in case group. They were evaluated by slit lamp to find PXF . CCT was measured in two groups using non-contact optical pachymetry.
Results : Out of 320 diabetic patients 119 cases (37.2%) had no signs of diabetic retinopathy(DR). Rest 201 patients had some degree of DR . Of 350 patients without diabetes 74 cases (21.1%) had PXF, 40 cases (12.5%) out of 320 diabetes cases had PXF. PXF was found to be lesser in patients with PDR(2.5%). Mean CCT in patients with PXF & without diabetes:522±34µ .In patients with diabetes 549±41 µ. Difference was statistically significant (p<0.001).
Conclusion : Mean CCT was greater in diabetic patients with PXF than non-diabetics with PXF.
