Objective: To retrospectively analyse and find the cause of poor visual outcome in a group of patients operated in a particular period of time.
Subjects: 4 eyes of 4 patients who underwent uneventful cataract surgery
Methods: Patients who had unresolving postoperative corneal edema at 1 week post cataract surgery were studied. They developed fixed dilated pupil, corneal edema, raised IOP and we planned for goniosynechiolysis at 4 weeks, assess the response and perform a trabeculectomy later if needed.
Results: Goniosynechiolysis and trabeculectomy failed in three cases and one case lost follow-up.The cause for this adverse event was narrowed down possibly to viscoelastic that was used during surgery as the adverse events were not reported once the viscoelastic was changed.
Conclusion: TASS and Urrets- Zavalia syndrome can be considered diseases of the same entity. Managing this sight threatening complication is a real challenge to the Ophthalmologist.
