AIM: To evaluate outcomes of ACIOL implantation with vitrectomy in eyes with surgical or traumatic aphakia.
MATERIAL & METHODS: Ninety eyes of ninety patients with surgical or traumatic aphakia were included in the study, who underwent vitrectomy with ACIOL implantation & followed on day 1, 7, 30, and 6 months. BCVA, IOP, S/L examination, IO was performed in each visit & findings were recorded and analyzed.
RESULTS: Mean age of presentation was 60yrs which included 69 males and 21 females. BCVA was > 6/60 in 58% & 89% at day 1, 6 months post surgery, with Average 4 lines of improvement at final follow up. Mean IOP was 14.59+ 3.3 mmHG at 6 months. The few complications encountered include CME (7 eyes), RD (2 eyes), displaced IOL (1 eye), Raised IOP (1 eye), Foveal detachment (1eye).
CONCLUSION: ACIOL implantation is economically viable & surgically safe procedure and offer good option for management of surgical/ traumatic aphakia.
