Aim: To study dry eye syndrome after phaco & MSICS .
Methods: 187 patients with senile cataract was included in the study.Group A had 110 patients undergoing MSICS and group B 77 patients undergoing phaco.Diabetes,complicated cataract ,preexisting ocular diseases were excluded.All patients underwent ocular examination including schirmer test ,tear film breakup test & dry eye symtoms recorded pre & post operatively.Postop patients were examined on day 2,7,fourth week & third month.TF-BUT was performed using commercially available fluorescein test paper.Schirmer test performed for assessment of aqueous tear production.Dry eye symptoms included redness ,photophobia ,blurred vision .
Result: Both MSICS and phaco showed significant decrease in TF-BUT, schirmer test at 1 week,1 month.No significant difference was seen in both the groups.After 3 months dry eye symptoms has decreased .
Conclusion: MSICS and phaco both aggravate dry eye symptoms & no difference is seen regarding tear secretion.
