OBJECTIVE: Visual outcome of secondary lens implantation in traumatic and non-traumatic pediatric aphakia.
METHODS: A retrospective study was done.Pediatric aphakic patients with traumatic and non-traumatic etiology were taken. Secondary lens implanted with or without vitrectomy using various types of IOLs, depending on the posterior capsular status. All data exported from EMR and analysed by SPSS 22.
RESULTS: Our study included 64 cases with 40(62.5%) patients of non-traumatic and 24(37.5%) patients of traumatic etiology. We found secondary lens implant had improved visual acuity significantly particularly in children of >5years of age. Significant difference between etiology was found due to associated comorbidities of trauma.
CONCLUSION: Secondary lens implant in pediatric age group improved visual acuity with significant difference for the etiology of aphakia.
