Aim: Comparison of a single para-muscular conjunctival incision approach to horizontal strabismus surgery, with a standard para-limbal approach: a prospective single blind randomized trial. Materials: muscle hooks, locking forceps, retractors, 6-0 and 8-0 Vicryl spatulated. Method: We intended to include 36 patients requiring horizontal strabismus surgery. Block randomization was done to randomize them into two groups. Group A: operated through conventional conjunctival approach. Group B: operated through the single para-muscular conjunctival incision approach. Results were compared in terms of redness, congestion, chemosis, foreign body sensation and drop intolerance at post op day 1, 2 weeks and 6 weeks.
Statistical analysis: Outcomes were compared between the groups using Student’s t-test (for continuous outcomes), Mann-Whitney U test for graded outcomes, and Chi-square test (Fisher’s exact method) for proportions or counts. Significance was set at p < 0.05.
